Garner Glass Company knew the benefits of statisticalquality control years before it was generally accepted. Sample lots of parts were measured the data recorded and plotted, all manually. Histograms were sent in every shipment. Competitive pricing practices forced us to stop this practice a number of years ago. When we realized that without histograms we were not in complete control of our process, we reinstituted the procedures. Now computers record the data and make the histograms! We hope that when each shipped package of parts is opened, this statistical information is forwarded to the Quality Assurance personnel. It can save our customers inspection costs. Here at Garner Glass Co., a copy of the result of each lot is routed back to the responsible operator. They then incorporate the data into the their next similarly dimensioned job.
